Siemens Power Generation and Natural Gas Group’s gas engine business has achieved a breakthrough by supplying three SGE-56HM gas-fired generator sets to enterprises in the Laser Industrial Park of the Anshan Economic Development Zone in Liaoning Province. These units will be used in the enterprises’ distributed energy station’s combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) project. This marks the first time Siemens gas engine generator sets have entered the Chinese market, and it is also the first CCHP project in Anshan, Liaoning Province. As an industrial city with steel as its pillar industry, this project marks the beginning of Anshan’s transition from coal to natural gas as a clean energy source.

The Siemens SGE-56HM gas generator set has an output power of 1.2 megawatts and features innovative design, a compact footprint, and high energy efficiency. It also delivers outstanding performance in terms of overall efficiency, fuel adaptability, and operational availability. Specifically, its electrical efficiency reaches 42.5%, thermal efficiency stands at 47.5%, and energy utilization efficiency is as high as 90%, enabling significant fuel savings. These characteristics have led to the widespread adoption of this model of gas-fired generator set in industrial utilities and public services, bioenergy and biomass plants, the oil and gas sector, and mechanical drive applications.

This distributed combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) energy station will provide electricity, heating, and cooling to enterprises within the park. Once the project becomes operational, it will integrate ORC turbine power generation with gas internal combustion engine technology, offering a highly energy-efficient CCHP solution for domestic distributed energy projects. This solution can supply approximately 18,825,000 kWh of electricity for production annually, while also providing district heating for an area of about 60,000 square meters; It will save approximately 7,530 metric tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 19,728 metric tons. This project has achieved positive social benefits and significant results in combating air pollution and promoting energy conservation and emissions reduction, while also featuring a short payback period, helping corporate users achieve a win-win outcome of economic benefits and environmental sustainability.

“We are deeply honored to bring Siemens’ advanced gas internal combustion engine technology to Anshan. This project actively supports the Chinese government’s ‘coal-to-gas’ initiative aimed at addressing climate challenges,” said Zhang Tiangui, Senior Vice President of Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. and General Manager of the Dresser-Lan Business Unit within the Power Generation and Natural Gas Group. “Siemens has consistently been committed to providing China with advanced technologies such as gas internal combustion engines and gas turbines to support the country’s major energy transition from coal to clean energy. “This collaboration also fully demonstrates our customers’ trust in Siemens’ global expertise and advanced technology. We will continue to leverage the high reliability, efficiency, and quality of Siemens products to help reduce our customers’ overall life-cycle costs while meeting environmental requirements,” he added.
